In the heart of the vineyards of Corbières our domain is surrounding the village of Cruscades in Aude. It belongs to the same family for several centuries. A beautiful land, a harmonious plantings, research quality lead to the development of excellent wines repeatedly rewarded.
Transmitted from generation to generation, the area has experienced the vicissitudes of time that shape the character : the divisions, the loss of his castle ... But he kept his cellar and his right to the name "Castle". Its history is linked to that of the vineyards of Languedoc, of very ancient origin. Latin surnames are numerous in this region and that of our ancestors is one of them. As for our vines, they bear the names of the Garrigue, Resplandys or Gineste, all suggestive of a unique terroir, exposed to sun and wind that make the personality.
The domain has 46 hectares of land of which 36 hectares are exploited for vine production (29 ha AOP and 7 ha IGP).
Our oldest vines are presented in “gobelets”. But they are now for the vast majority conducted in “cordons de Royat” and installed on three levels trellis.
The argilo-calcareous land particularly draining is formed of a sandy and stony mixture from the alluvial terraces of the primitive ocean.Cruscades, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate and dominated by the sun and wind, is perfectly suited for the cultivation of the vine. Drip irrigation on certain plots is sometimes necessary to provide additional water to the vines.
A great attention is given to the environmental impact of the vineyard and the use of products for managing the production. We are constantly balancing ancestral tradition with recommendations provided by the Chamber of agriculture to minimise our ecological impact. However, we are not planning to convert the vineyard in organic production for the time being due to the economic constraints and the reality on the ground related to this pratice.
The grape varieties
The grape varieties are harmoniously composed of three characteristic vines of Corbières: syrah, grenache and carignan.
Recent plantings of Mourvèdre and white grapes (roussanne, marsanne, grenache white) allow to present a complete AOP range in three wine colours: red, pink (rosé) and white. Viognier and cabernet sauvignon will complete soon our range of “vin de pays”.
